Enhancing access to clean and safe Water Hygiene and Sanitation services .

South Sudans’ Water ,sanitation and Hygiene (WASH ) coverage is very low i.e 41% coverage with basic water supply, 11 % coverage with basic sanitation and with 63% of the population still practicing open defecation .CIDO increases access to safe and clean water through improving water infrastructure e.g drilling/rehabilitation of boreholes ,water yards and capacity building of water management committees on proper use and protection of water sources. Additionally , 16000 Households have been supported with access to basic sanitation facilities through the maintenance of emergency communal latrines and the construction of household latrines in 5 states. In addressing open defecation ,CIDO has worked with stakeholders to pilot a community led total sanitation (CLTS) project in Akobo county ,South Sudan A total of 15 villages have been triggered of which 2 villages have achieved open defecation free status. 164,000 individuals have been reached with hygiene promotion messages .
